In summer 2009 Madeira will have an additional weekly direct flight from Poland as a result of the commercial agreement between Sata Internacional and the Polish tour operator Itaka.
Itaka started its programme to Madeira in November 2007, with one charter flight per week between Warsaw and Funchal. The charter operation for 2009 will connect Madeira to the cities of Warsaw and Poznan, with flights on Tuesdays, one of which will be only during the summer period of IATA.
Between January and October last year, this market showed large growth, with more than 9.500 tourists entering the Autonomous Region of Madeira, which when compared to a similar time, means a growth of 718 %.
Madeira island is 310 miles from the African coast and 620 miles from the European continent, which is the equivalent of a 1 hour 30 minute flight from Lisbon.(more)
