Madeira Theme Park, in Santana, has introduced a set of entertaining and educational activities, both in pavilions and outdoors, in order to promote a better cultural and historical knowledge of Madeira Archipelago. Within this scope it will also include new attractions from summer 2009.
The new activities are: a virtual theatre which recreates the environment in the bay of Funchal with the harvor (Pontinha), the pebble beach and the maritime movement (usually cruise liners stopping off in Madeira); a film created for children, in which it is possible to see the flora and fauna of Madeira in 3D; children are able to interact by steering caravels with a remote control, and to foresee the economic and environmental reality of the Region in the year 2419 (one thousand years after the archipelago was discovered), called “The Future of the Earth”. Furthermore, there is the intention to include images of events and visitors on a television channel and online portals like “YouTube”.

There had been plans to open a botanical garden in Madeira ever since the 17th century. And in 1960 this dream finally came true. Madeira Botanical Garden is 3 km from the centre of Funchal on the south side of a valley with exceptional conditions for its exuberant vegetation.(more)
